General Notes: A farmer, born on "Holmes Hill", East Stoughton (now Avon).26 Dec 18 24 he bought one half of his father's place, described as "on t he road le ading from the hotale to Bridgewater" (Norfolk) Registry of Deed s, vol 7 5, p.41). Nathan lived on his father's farm until 1829, then mov ed to Sha ron, selling his half to his brother Ezekiel (Ibid, vol 86, p.227 ). For r easons not apparent at this late date, he was continually in troub le fina ncially, and died a poor man. 12 children, all born in Stoughton: C lemen t, Philo, A son, Elijah, Nathan, Bradford, Francis, Wadsworth, Richa rd Ca rey, William, Fisher, Zilpha Ann. As all the previous children had b e en boys, the family was so pleased to have a girl, that a flag was ra is ed that day, on the hill back of house, which incidentally also se rv ed to celebrate Independence Day, she being born 3 July 1827.
