Charlotte County New Brunswick Families

Hi, this is my first attempt at a web page. Below you will find a number of Genealogy links to help in your Charlotte Co., New Brunswick research as well as information on various families from the islands of Campobello and Grand Manan.

I became interested in Genealogy as a child in school when I had to do a "family tree" project. I guess you could say I caught this "bug" then and it has been with me ever since. I picked up this hobby on a regular basis about 6 years ago and work on it off and on as time permits. (Mostly more "on" than "off"...ha, ha!)

My Campobello Roots go back to the early 1800's and the family of Robert WILSON. His daughter Thankful would later marry James Burden BROWN, born in York County, NB but they raised there large family on Campobello and started having their 10 children there starting in the mid 1820's.

James would go on to become a "Colonel" in the Charlotte Co., Militia, later after he retired he was the local postmaster. He also appears in local census records as a "Justice of the Peace", "Magistrate" and "Fisherman" through various years. For a person of such "stature" it is hard to believe I can find "nothing" else about him.

The BROWN family married into a number of other familiar Campobello surnames including: BABCOCK, BASSETT, CALDER, MALLOCH, MATTHEWS, NEWMAN, PORTER, and SEARLES to name a few.

My other Charlotte County roots are in Grand Manan Island. My surnames of interest their are BEAL, BROWN, CRONK, GRIFFIN, STANLEY and WORTHEN. The BEAL line comes from Beals Island (Jonesport), Maine. The STANLEY line goes back to Mount Desert, Maine. Both of these lines orginated in England. My great grandfather Sidney WORTHEN was born in Guysborough Co., Nova Scotia. This line then extends to Shelburne Co., NS and also orginated in England. The CRONK and GRIFFIN lines were from Nova Scotia as well.
