Shouts for Help and Blowing of Fog Horn Rouse Residents of Devil's Island DEVIL'S ISLAND, Halifax County, Sept 5.--An unknown schooner , en route to Halifax from Spry Bay was beached about 1 o'clock this morning as she sprung a leak about a mile off shore. Two men, Captain Jackson and another man , also named Jackson, were taken off in safety. David Henneberry, of the district , William Falkland, the light house keeper and his son were roused by the blowing of the fog horn on the schooner and the shouts of the men aboard for help. They put out in a power boat and towed the schooner in. She was leaking badly, and was put ashore near the breakwater in an effort to save her.The men were bailing frantically when found and despite their efforts the water had covered the engine and was gaining rapidly. | ![]() |
