37. Governor Richard BENNETT (Thomas , Richard Thomas , Thomas "of Clapcot" , John , Thomas , Thomas ) was born on Aug 6 1609 in Wieliscombe, Somerset, England. He died about 1674 in Nansemond County, Virginia.

Richard married Mary Anne UTE in 1641.

53. Richard BENNETT (Thomas , John , Thomas "of Clapcot" , John , Thomas , Thomas ) was born about 1625 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He died about 1709 in Surry County, Virginia.

Richard Bennett would have been born ca/1617 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.
In the will of Anthony Barham Richard Bennett is identified as abrother-in-law. Barham married Elizabeth Pierce, known to have been the step daughter of Thomas Bennett.
Richard was the son of Thomas Bennett and probably his first wife, either Margery or Mary. There are two Thomas Bennett's in the 1624 roll. It is popular to claim he is the son of Thomas' second wife Alice Pierce, but he may have been born earlier than 1624.
Anne, his first wife, died after 1682 when she is mentioned as the dower in a deed. She may be a Barham due the realtionship state in the Pierce family wills.
Sarah, his second wife, first married Daniel Lewis. She had daughter Sarah and son Daniel. After the death of Richard Bennett she married third to Robert Lancaster. Sarah's will is dated 10/31/1722and probated 01/29/1723.
