Married James Richey who, according to family tradition, was an avowed
Mormon who coverted Lucinda Mangum and her widowed mother Rebecca Mangum
to the Mormon religion. Richey and his family, with Rebecca, moved through
Nauvoo, to Council Bluffs, Iowa and then on to Salt Lake, with Rebecca's
sons who also converted, thus beginning a long and large line of Mormon
Mangums in Utah today. (JTP)

(See History of Lucinda Mangum Richey by Mary A. Chapman Richey for an account
of Lucinda's life.) Apparently Lucinda and his family lived first in Salt
Lake City and then James Richey was called to Manti to help settle the
community. The Richeys helped build the St. George Temple. "Grandmother
Richey was always so sweet and kind, and everybody loved her. She was 70
years old when she died. Her husband had been dead for two or three years
when she died. They are both buried in St. Johns, Arizona.

Lucinda married James RICHEY on Mar 25 1846 in Nauvoo, Hancock Co, Il. James was born Aug 13 1821 in Richens, Pickens Co, AL. He died Aug 7 1890 in A. Wingak, McKinley, NM and was buried in St. John's, Arizona.

Benjamin worked with me with a man by the name of Honsok at which time I heard
a Mormon elder preach in the schoolhouse. Read Richey's account of his con-

Commission on Art and Antiquities, Washington, DC 20510-7102, dated 14 January,
1987 to William Preston Mangum of Winston-Salem (Bill Mangum, now of Chapel
Hill, NC) notes "The Willie Person Mangum portgrait in the Senate's collection
is by Artist James R. Lambdin and was painted in the US Capitol in 1844 during
the subject's tenure as president pro-tempore of the Senate. According to
correspondence in the Willie Person Mangum Papers at the Library of Congress,
James Reid Lambdin was grantged permission by the chairmen of the Senate
Committees on Patents and Public Buildings to use their sub-basement room in
the Capitol as a studio. Mangum was advised of this arrangement in early
March 1844, and subsequently introduced to Lambin. The North Carolinian appears
to have engaged the artist shortly thereafter, for on March 18, 1844 Lambdcin
wrote to Mangum at his boarding house and asked him to sit for his portrait
that morning. The painting was completed three months later when Lambdin
wrote to Mangum from Philadelphia regarding payment. After its execution, the
portrait hung in Mangum's plantation, Walnut Hall, near Red Mountain, North
Carolina and remained in the Mangum family until its acquisition by the Senate
in 1978."

This information was obtained from a GEDCOM file at ancestry.com. This information clearly indicates that Solomon was a son of this Arthur Mangum, Jr. I found no primary source materials to back up this claim. Solomon was not listed in other materials I have found on this Mangum family. At this time I do not have any reason to question this claim of Solomon's parentage so I'm listing Solomon with Arthur and Dicey's other children. I welcome any other information that can support or disprove this line of descent.
