179. Nathaniel W. MANGUM (James , Jacob , James , William , John , John ) was born about 1810 in SC. He died after 1850 in Lumpkin Co, GA.
I have reconstructed this family from data found in the Mangum Family
Bulletin, Issue 27, 1987, p 9. It is possible that this is not the same
Nathaniel Mangum, son of James. The ages and location make it highly possible
that they are one and the same.
Nathaniel married Mary S. (connally) LEEK about 1836 in GA?. Mary was born about 1815 in TN. She died after 1850 in Lumpkin Co, GA.

far from home and broke at the close of the Civil War. He reasoned that if he
could reach the home of his uncle in Georgia, he would loan him money to get
home on. But when he got to the unclde's home, stragglers from Sherman's army
had stolen all his valuables, driven off the slaves, and killed all his animals
but one old mule. John Mangum notes t hat he knows of no Stubbs uncle who
migrated to Georgia. There were, however, two Mangum uncles who did so. One
was the older half brother of Joseph Edward Mangum named James who moved to
Fulton Co, GA about 1824 and died there about 1863. The other was Joseph's
next older full brother named William who moved to the head waters of the South
