Baird

baird James Baird, possibly a son of Thomas Baird, was born in Ireland and died in Ohio Co in 1826. He had four brothers: Robert, who in 1785 married Nancy Ann Barnett, born in 1767; John (John P Baird?, married to Sarah Bethel?); Thomas; and William. All these Baird brothers came to America before 1776 and at one time lived in KY near Bardstown, the town established by their uncles David and William Baird. James married “Lady” Jane Lynn, daughter of William Lynn, in 1779. James and Jane came to PA in 1782 with their son James. Years later they came down river and settled at Bardstown, and later moved to Hartford, where he became the first county coroner. They had five children-

1. James Baird Jr, b Ireland in 1781, died near Hartford, KY in 1868. He married Rebecca Barnett in 1803. She was born in VA in 1776, daughter of Alexander Barnett and Jane Barnett, and died in 1858. They had seven children-

a. Rachel Elizabeth Baird, b 1804, died in 1892. She married 1st to her cousin Thomas Alexander Barnett. He was born in 1798, son of Joseph Barnett and Jean _____, and died in 1863. Rachel later married Robert T Bell. She had seven children; only three daughters married-

1. Abigail J Barnett, b 1829.

2. Joseph P Barnett, b 1831.

3. James A Barnett, b 1835.

4. William P Barnett, b 1838.

5. Sally E Barnett, b 1840.

6. Rachel C Barnett, b 1842, married Ashford W Mills in 1867.

b. Jane M Baird, b 1806, died in 1874. She married John Bennett Stevens. He was born in 1806, and by 1850 they had at least seven children-

c. William Lynn Baird, b 1810, died in 1859. He married Nancy Ailsey Wallace, daughter of Charles Wallace and Nancy Benton. She was born in 1816. By 1850 they had six children-

1. George P Baird, b 1839, married Rebecca A Stevens about 1860. She was born in 1842.

2. William H Baird, b 1841.

3. Rebecca A Baird, b 1843.

4. Mary F Baird, b 1845.

5. James A Baird, b 1847.

6. Rachael E Baird, b 1849.

d. Mary M Baird, b 1812, died in 1864. She married William M Stevens. He was born in 1809. By 1860 they had five children-

4. John A Stevens, b 1846, married Alice V Brown.

e. James Perry Baird, b 1815, drowned in 1829.

f. Sally Ann Baird, b 1817, died in 1879. She married David Lowery Barnett. He was born in 1821 and died in 1886. They had at least seven children by 1860-

2. Sally M Barnett, b 1846, married Amos Shown in 1879, and died in 1909. They had at least two children-

4. John L Barnett, b 1850, married Pauline Barnett in 1874. She was born in 1852 in KY, daughter of Robert Emmitt Barnett and Amanda Phipps. Pauline died in 1907. They had six children, all alive in 1900-

4. Prudence Baird, b 1854, married V M Taylor in 1880.

2. Mary “Polly” Baird, married James Hopkins in 1803. In 1826 they may have been living in Ohio.

3. Thomas Baird, b 1786 at Bardstown, died in 1858. He lived in Ohio Co near Beda and married Elizabeth Ford in 1815. She was born in 1797 and died in 1845. They had 16 children-

a. Mahalia Jane Baird, b 1816, died in 1896. She married Hiram D McSherry in 1840. He died in 1862 in the Civil War. They had children.

b. Sabra Ann Baird, b 1818, died in 1887. She never married.

c. Allison Porter Baird, b 1819, died in 1874. He married Sarah E Bennett. She was born in 1831, daughter of Titus Bennett and Christen Sorrels, and died in 1875. They had six children by 1860, and ten in all-

1. Agnes S Baird, b 1851, married Richard P Sorrells in 1870, and died in 1873. He then married Keron R Baird in 1874.

2. Frances Amanda Baird, b 1850, married Jacob Shaver in 1868.

3. Crittenden Taylor Baird, b 1853, married Charlotte Frances Bennett in 1877.

4. Thomas Henry Baird, b 1855, married Candas Delila Williford in 1880.

5. Allison B Baird, b 1857, married Julia Ann Christian in 1891.

6. Mary A Baird, b 1860, died in 1875.

7. Lou Elizabeth Baird, b 1862, died unmarried.

8. Emaline Isabelle Baird, b 1865, married Thomas Tanner.

9. Samuel O Baird, b 1867, never married.

10. James E. Baird, b 1869, died in 1877.

11. Sarah Adeline Baird, b 1871, married Albert S Chinn in 1892, and died in 1927. He was born in 1866, the son of James S Chinn and Eliza Ann Sublett. Albert died in 1948.

12. Andrew Lynn Baird, b 1874, married Mattie McMillan.

d. Martha Isabelle Baird, b 1821, died in 1876. She married Henry McSherry, had one child, and later married Benjamin Shaver.

e. Harriet Ford Baird, b 1822 and died in 1824.

f. Samuel Lynn Baird, b 1824, died in 1913. He married Tabitha Ann Bennett, daughter of Joseph B Bennett and Sarah Carson, in 1850. She was born in 1834 and died in 1920. They had twelve children. Some were-

2. Joseph H Baird, b 1853, married Mary F Miller in 1874.

3. Sarah S Baird, b 1855, married Edmund W Ford in 1871.

h. Casander Elizabeth Baird, b 1827, died in 1915. She married Ben F Burden in 1858.

i. James Gordon Baird, b 1828, died in 1863. He married Susannah A Shaver in 1861. She was born in 1839, daughter of Jacob Shaver and Sarah Ann Simmons (she was a daughter of Henry Child Simmons and Sarah Ferguson; Henry Child Simmons was a brother of Cephas Simmons of Bullitt Co). and died in 1902. He and Susannah had two children-

j. Harriet Louise Baird, b 1830, died in 1902. She married Charles Henry Stevens in 1854. He was born in 1832. They had many children, three being-

r. Emily Adaline Baird, b 1843, died in 1919. She married Henry Cephas Shaver in 1860.
