Benjamin Shaver, born in May 1783, and his wife Elizabeth Esarey, born 13 Sep 1785 in Hardin Co KY, sold 100 acres and 6.75 acres at Hill Grove in Meade Co KY on 28 May 1825. This was next to Jonathan Simmons' land. Ben signed, while Elizabeth put her X mark. In another May 1825 sale of 50 acres to Joseph F Woolfolk, by the heirs of Jonathan Simmons, Benjamin Shaver was named as a neighbor. He married Elizabeth on 28 Jul 1806 at Elizabethtown, Hardin Co; Jonathan D Essary posted bond (see Sally Shaver below). This was the portion of Hardin Co which became part of Meade Co in 1824. Ben was an appraiser for the Willis Threlkeld estate on 28 Oct 1817 in Hardin Co; he was also an appraiser for Samuel Simmons' estate in Hardin Co on 30 Mar 1820 (along with John & Ben Shacklett). Ben died in Jul 1846 in Meade Co; Elizabeth died in 1846 in KY, probably Meade Co. She was a daughter of John Esarey and Sarah Hester Clark. By 1830 Ben's children were-

1.   Felix Shaver, b KY between 1807 and 1810, married Miriam Simmons, daughter of Henry Child Simmons and Sarah Ferguson in Meade Co on 8 Aug 1833. Felix died in Meade Co in the mid-1840s, because Miriam moved to Ohio Co about then, as did many of her brothers and sisters. See her and Felix under the Simmons Family.

2.   Ezra Shaver was born between 1807 and 1810; he married Amelia Simmons, daughter of Henry Child Simmons and Sarah Ferguson, in Meade Co on 28 May 1837. She was born in KY in 1811. See them under the Simmons Family.

3.   Nancy Shaver, b 1811-1815, married James Reed in Meade Co on 10 Oct 1833. They were not found in 1860. (7jkm)

4.   Jacob Shaver, b 1814, married Sarah Ann Simmons in Meade Co on 4 Dec 1834. She was born 14 Feb 1818 in IL, daughter of Henry Child Simmons and Sarah Ferguson. Jacob and Sarah lived for a few years in Meade Co, then in the 1840s moved to Ohio Co to the area of Shinkle Chapel near Beda, where he died in the north part of the Co in 1851. After his death, Sarah supported herself by farming. She died on 6 Aug 1878. They had eight children-

      1.   Benjamin Shaver, b 1835

      2.   Henry Cephas Shaver, b 4 Feb 1837

      3.   Susannah Ann Shaver, b 21 Sep 1839, married James Gordon Baird in Ohio Co on 3 Jan 1861. He was born 23 Aug 1828 in Ohio Co, and died 5 Nov 1863 in Ohio Co. Susannah then married widower Elijah C Woodward. Susannah had two children-

             a.   Ezra Clinton Baird, b 24 Dec 1861 Ohio Co, married Amelia Tichenor, and died 12 Apr 1944 in Ohio Co.

             b.   Sallie M Baird, b 1864 Ohio Co, died 1875 in Ohio Co.

      4.   girl Shaver, b 1835-1840, died in 1840s.

      5.   child? Shaver, probably b 1840-1845, died by 1850.

      6.   Jacob A Shaver, b 2 Dec 1846

      7.   Miriam Shaver, b 21 Nov 1848

5.   dau Shaver, b 1816-1820, alive in 1840 in Meade Co.

6.   Matilda Shaver, b 1824 in Meade Co, married Porter Simmons in Ohio Co on 7 Dec 1843. He was a son of William C Simmons and Tomzey Calloway, and was born in 1821 in Ohio Co. See the Simmons file.

7.   girl (Martha?) Shaver, b 1826-1830, married William Wimp in Meade Co on 23 May 1845 with the consent of her mother. (7jkm)


Sally Shaver, probably a sister of Benjamin Shaver, married Jonathan D Essary in Hardin Co on 12 Jan 1809. Benjamin posted bond. Jonathan was probably a widower since he had married Sarah Wilery in Hardin Co on 7 Jul 1803. (8m)
