Tinsley

tinsley Banister Tinsley of Bedford Co VA, was born about 1775. He married Mildred Shore_____. They moved to the Beda-No Creek area of Ohio Co KY about 1839. Mildred was born in 1772 and died in 1866. She and Banister had at least four children-

1. Joseph Tinsley, b 1802 in VA, married Susan Sledd in Bedford Co VA on 25 Jan 1841. She was born in 1821. They moved to Ohio Co about 1844. By 1860 they had nine children when Joseph died-

a. Mildred A Tinsley, b 1842, never married.

b. Mary F Tinsley, b 1843, married M K Chapman.

c. Amanda J Tinsley, b 1845, married Isaac McDonald Bennett in 1861.

d. Patsy A “Cleopatra” Tinsley, b 1847, married George W Snell in 1878.

e. Karon E Tinsley, b 1849, was alive in 1870 and died when a young adult.

f. Martha Tinsley, b 1851, married Nathan Granville Patton in Ohio Co on 21 Aug 1869. He was born in 1846, son of Thornton Patton and Rebecca Jones.

g. Samuel P Tinsley, b 1856, died as a young adult.

h. Judith Tinsley, b 1857, married Henry E Bennett in Ohio Co on 19 Mar 1873.

i. Lucy Tinsley, b 1859, died six years later.

2. Absolom Tinsley, b 1809 in VA, probably Bedford Co. He married Mary Ann Kerns there on 18 Jan 1830. She was born in 1810 in VA and died in 1889. Absolom died in 1850 after May. They moved to Ohio Co about 1833 and had at least seven children-

a. Mildred Ann Tinsley, b 1830, married Henry Mack Bennett in 1847 and had children, then married Joseph Conditt Barnett. She died in 1906; Joseph C Barnett died in 1893.

b. Martha Jane Tinsley, b 1832, married Isaac N Duke in Ohio Co on 23 Nov 1852. She died in 1881 and Isaac in 1905. He was born in 1829. They had nine children-

1. John A Duke, b 1853, married Laura D Sullenger in 1876.

2. Lucy E Duke, b 1855, married Charles Wimsatt in 1878.

3. Mildred Duke, b 1857.

4. Stephen E Duke, b 1858, married Mary A Bennett in 1882.

c. Elizabeth Tinsley, b 1837, married Isaac Foster, his second marriage, the first being to Altha A Bennett. He was born in 1825 in Ireland and died in 1902. Eliza died in 1859 and Isaac married a third time, to Nancy C Carson in 1866 (See Azro Vincent Rowan [R2b1b5b]). Eliza and Isaac had two children-

1. John Breckinridge Foster, b 1857, married Lavisa B Bennett in 1885. They had three children-

a. Bertha Foster, died at the age of 2.

b. J Ney Foster.

c. Alice M Foster, married Clifford Moore and lived at Indianapolis, IN.

2. Mary L Foster, b 1858, died in 1861.

d. George M Tinsley, b 1839, died in 1862 in the Civil War.

e. Joshua Tinsley, b 1844, married Miriam Shaver, daughter of Jacob Shaver and Sarah Ann Simmons, in Ohio Co on 16 Mar 1869. Joshua died in 1925 and Miriam in 1902. They had nine children-

1. Sallie Mary Tinsley, b 1870, married Jared A Williams in 1897. He was born in 1845 and died in 1941. She died in 1949.

2. Charlotte Bell Tinsley, b 1871, married Sanford D Williams in 1895.

3. William Levega Tinsley, b 1873, married Eva May Ragland in 1913. She was born in 1887, daughter of Lorenzo Dow Ragland and Laura Dean Rains. They had five children-

a. Charles Gray Tinsley, b 1914, married Gladys Wire in 1938.

b. Jennie Marie Tinsley, b and died in 1915.

c. William Lester Tinsley, b 1917.

4. Leona Tinsley, b 1876, died in 1876.

5. Susan Jane Tinsley, b 1878, married W R Carson in 1899.

6. Henry Griffin Tinsley, b 1879, married Lizzie Hudson in 1919. He died in 1928.

7. Virginia Katie Tinsley, b 1882, married Sam H Oglesby in 1905.

8. John Edgar Tinsley, b 1886, married Laura Pearl Stogner in 1909.

9. James Leonard Forest Tinsley, b 1889, married Audria Brooks Rowe in 1911. She was born in 1893, daughter of Francis J Rowe and Ardenia Leisure; Audria died in 1915. They had two children-

g. James K Polk Tinsley, b 6 Sep 1849, married Deborah Johnston in Ohio Co on 9 Apr 1870. She was born in 1842 and died in 1882, probably a daughter of James Johnson and Deborah Taber. James died 13 Jun 1933 in Ohio Co. They had three children, all born in Ohio Co KY-

1. Fred Lee Tinsley, b 1871, died in 1942.

She was born 16 Dec 1842, daughter of Joseph Conditt Barnett and Frances D Bennett, and died at Hartford, Ohio Co on 27 Mar 1925. Woodberry died 16 May 1907 at age 64 in Ohio Co. They had five children, all born in KY-
