THE EBERLE FAMILY

Description of Picture. The Eberle name has a rich history and many variations in the name; Eberlein, Eberl, Eber, et cetera. "Eber" means "boar," while "-le" refers to "small" in German. Some family members say it meant "Keeper of the Pigs." Either way, the German origin seems to be the consensus.

Christian Eberle

Christian Eberle was our first Eberle ancestor to emigrate from Germany to America. He was born in 1847 in Dielkirchen, Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany. He left his mother and father, Peter and Catherine (Conrad) Eberle, to immigrate to America in 1864. In his new home, he found liberty, opportunity, and love.

Christian married Wilhelmina "Minnie" Reutler (or Reidler) in 1870. Wilhelmina's family, The Reutlers, were close to their neighbors, the Bichlers. They were farmers in the Tumbling Run Valley. Later, Christian and Wilhemina's son, Fred, married Clara Bichler. All families were prominent citizens of Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
