Estate of Albert Woodworth Edgerton

Petition for Letters of Administration

 

At a Court of Probate holden at Columbia within and for the district of Andover on the 26th day of July A.D. 1894

 

Present

Edward P. Lyman, Judge

 

Nettie A. Edgerton of Columbia Conn. presented to the Court an application praying that letters of administration may be granted on the estate of Albert W. Edgerton late of Columbia in said district deceased and for reasons therein set forth without the usual notice said application is accepted by the Court and is ordered on record and file.

 

The said application is as follows:

 

To the Probate Court for the District of Andover

 

Estate of Albert W. Edgerton late of Columbia in said district deceased.  The subscriber represents that Albert W. Edgerton last dwelt in the Town of Columbia in said district and died on the 22nd day of July A.D. 1894 possessed of goods and estate remaining to be administered, leaving a widow whose name is Nettie A. Edgerton and as his only heirs-at-law and next of kin, the persons whose names residences and relationship to the deceased are as follows, viz:

That all of said children are minors and that the interest of no person will be subserved by the granting of administration without the usual notice.  Wherefor you petitioner prays that letters of Administration may be granted to some suitable persons.

Upon the forgoing application for cause shown this Court dispenses with notice and appoints Chester H. Collins of Columbia Conn. administrator on said estate and grants to him letters of administration he having accepted said trust and executed a Bond with surety to the acceptance of this Court conditioned upon the faithfull discharge of the duties of his said appointment.  The said Bond is as follow:

State of Connecticut

 

Know all men by these Presents, That we Chester H. Collins as principal and Warren A. Collins as surety are holden and stand firmly bound and obliged jointly and severally unto the State of Connecticut, in the penal sum of five hundred Dollars ($500.00) to be paid said State or to its certain attorney.  To the which payment well and truly to be made, we, the said obligers, do bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, and each and every of them, for and in the whole sum aforesaid, firmly by these presents.

 

Signed with our hands and Sealed with our seals this 26th day of July Anno Domini 1894.

 

The Condition of this Obligation is such, That whereas the above bounden Chester H. Collins has this day been appointed Administrator on the estate of Albert W. Edgerton late of Columbia in said Probate District of Andover deceased.  Now therefore, if the said Chester H. Collins shall well and truly discharge the duties of his said appointment according to law, then the above obligation to be void, and of none effect, otherwise to remain in full force power and virtue.

Appointment of Appraisors

 

At the last aforesaid Court     July 26th 1894

 

On motion of Chester H. Collins Administrator on the Estate of Albert W. Edgerton late of Columbia in said district deceased This Court appoints Henry C. Isham and Alonzo Little esq. judicious and disinterested persons Appraisers to appraise all of said estate both real and personal according to its value and to assist the Administrator in making a true and perfect Inventory thereof which the said administrator is hereby ordered to return to this Court on or before the 26th day of Sept. A.D. 1894.

 

 

Order of Notice to Creditors

 

At the last aforesaid Court     July 26th 1894

 

This Court limits and allows the term of six months from the date hereof for the Creditors of the estate of Albert W. Edgerton deceased in which to present their claims to the Administrator duly approved or be barred on recovery thereof and the said Administrator is hereby directed to give public notice of this Order by publishing the same in some newspaper having a circulation in said district and by posting a copy thereof on the public signpost in the Town of Columbia nearest to where the deceased last dwelt and return make to this Court.

At the last aforesaid Court     July 26th 1894

 

Ordered that the Administrator on the Estate of Albert W. Edgerton lat of Columbia in said district deceased render to this Court a plain and true account of his administration of said estate on or before the 26th day of July 1895.

Return of Inventory

 

At a Court of Probate holden at Columbia within and for the district of Andover on the 11th day of August A.D. 1894.

Chester H. Collins Administrator on the estate of Albert W. Edgerton late of Columbia in said district deceased presented to this Court an Inventory of said deceased estate which being sworn to is accepted by this Court and is ordered on record and file.  The said Inventory is as follows:

Allowance to Widow

 

At the last aforesaid Court held Aug 11th 1894

 

Upon the application of Nettie A. Edgerton Widow of Albert W. Edgerton late of Columbia in said district deceased the Court makes an allowance of one hundred Dollars to said Widow for support of family during the settlement of the estate.
