The Distribution of the Dower of Mrs. Asenath Edgerton
We the subscribers having been appointed by the Hon. Court of Probate for the district of Granby distributors to distribute to Asenath Edgerton her third or dower in the real estate of her husband, Alonson Edgerton, late of Granby deceased that he died possessed of in his own right, have attended to the duties assigned us and now make the following return of our doings to said Court. We entered upon and appraised said estate to the sum of thirty nine hundred dollars. We then set off to Asenath Edgerton her dower as follows, one third of the house on the south part consisting of the south front room and east bedroom together with the chamber over and the cellar under them, also a privilege in the kitchen buttery and cheese room, the privilege of going up and down chamber and cellar stairs, also a privilege in the out buildings what is necessary for her convenience, also one third part of the barn with the privilege in the barn yard. We then set to Asenath Edgerton a piece of land beginning on the road southerly of the dwelling house at Naboth Case’s land running South 67o E. 41 chains 92 links to a stake and stones then North 22½o East 9 chains then North 67o West 41 chains 92 links to the highway then S 22½o W. 9 chains on the highway to the place of starting containing thirty seven acres of land with the above described buildings standing on the same. Also a piece of land lying south of the old road and is bounded North on the old road, East on Justus D. Wilcox land and the twenty four acre lot belonging to the heirs South of Forres Reed and Caleb Edgerton’s land, West on Caleb Edgerton’s land containing thirty six acres of land. Also another piece of land lying on the East side of the highway opposite the Asahel farm bounded North East and South on Caleb Edgertons land and West on the highway containing 2 acres 1 quarter and 11 rods of land. We the subscribers having been appointed by the Hon Court of Probate for the district of Granby Distributors to distribute all the remaining estate of Alonson Edgerton late of Granby deceased to the several heirs share and share alike, have attended to the duties assigned us and now make the following return of our doings to said Court. We set to Washburn Edgerton the Asahel Farm so called bounded North on Naboth Case’s land West on the Barkhamsted Town line, South on Jemima Case’s land and East on the highway containing seventy six acres three quarters and 12 rods of land with the buildings standing on the same. Also a piece of land lying the opposite side of the highway and bounds North, East, and South on Caleb Edgerton’s land, and West on the highway containing two acres one quarter and 11 rods of land. Also all of the right in the buildings that Alonson Edgerton his father owned at his death that are now standing on the same. Also a piece of land lying south of the old road and it bounds North on the old road East on Justus D. Wilcox land and the twenty four acre lot of Forres Reed and Caleb Edgerton and West on Caleb Edgerton’s land containing thirty six acres one quarter and 3 rods of land. Also another piece of land called the twenty four acre lot bound North on land this day set to Alonzo Edgerton, East on Seymour Hoskin’s land, South on Caleb Edgerton’s land and West on Caleb Edgerton and Forres Reed’s land partly and partly on land this day set to Diantha A. Gould and himself and contains 24 acres of land. The whole valued at $1400.00 We set to Alonzo Edgerton a piece of land situated on the North side of the home farm begun at the North west corner and run South 23½o West 15 chains on the highway to stake and stones, then South 67o East 41 chains 92 links to Justus D. Wilcox’s land then North 22½o East 15 chains to the Northeast corner of said farm then following the north line of the farm by Lee Edgerton’s land to the highway to the place of starting containing 92 acres 3 quarters and 14 rods of land together with all of the buildings standing on the same. Also set to Alonzo Edgerton another piece of land lying south of the old road and bounds North on the old road and Justus D. Wilcox land, East on Oliver Beach and James Billett’s land, South by Joel Doud, Aurora Holcomb and others land, and land set to Washburn Edgerton containing nineteen acres and 2 quarters of land. The whole valued at $1400.00 We set to Dianthia A. Gould wife of Thomas S. Gould a piece of land on the home farm Bounded North on land this day set to Alonzo Edgerton, East on Justus D. Wilcox land, South partly on the old road and partly on Naboth Case’s land and West on Naboth Case’s land and the highway containing 39 acres 1 quarter and 26 rods of land together with all of the buildings standing on the same. Also a piece of land bounded north on the Barkhamsted road so called East on the highway and south on Naboth Case’s land containing nineteen acres one quarter of land with the buildings standing on the same. Also a piece of pasture land bounded North South and West on Caleb Edgerton’s land and East on land this day set to Washburn Edgerton containing 6 acres 3 quarter and 5 rods of land. Also another piece of wood land bounded North on Caleb Edgerton’s land, East on Nancy Wilcox’s land, South on Caleb Edgerton’s land and West on land of Jubal Case containing 4 acres of land.
