The following obituary was published in the Northern Michigan Review on July 28, 2009:

“Betty L. Petrowski, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at Hiland Cottage of Petoskey.

She was born at home in Resort Township on Aug. 7, 1924, to Elliot and Theresa (Kopenkoskey) Edgerton.  Betty attended Petoskey schools; she was a member of the Petoskey High School Marching Band and was a graduate of the class of 1943.

The love of Betty's life was her husband, Leo; the two were married on June 30, 1951, in Petoskey.  They were a couple for more than 58 years sharing many wonderful memories.  They together raised two daughters who were the focus of Betty's life.

She was a caring and generous person, who always tried to treat others with respect.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Petoskey and in retirement spent winters in Arizona. She loved to square dance, enjoyed crafts, reading and crossword puzzles.  Her family and close friends will always remember her fondly as a feisty, fun loving and kind gal whose presence as part of their lives will be sorely missed. "Go Tigers"

Betty is survived by her husband, Leo, and her daughters, Nancy (Tim) Schmit and Janet (Glenn) Schmit.  Both Glenn and Tim were as special to her as any two sons-in-law could be.  Also surviving are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy, as well as sister, Marie Isacson, of Petoskey and several nieces and nephews.  Including her mother and father, Betty was also preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Edgerton.

A graveside service took place today, Tuesday, July 28, for the family at Greenwood Cemetery.  Her family will celebrate her life with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at the Alanson Church of the Nazarene.

Betty's family wishes to convey a special thanks to the staff and doctors of Northern Michigan Regional Hospital as well as to the staff of Hiland Cottage and everyone with Hospice of Little Traverse Bay for the wonderful care and exceptional kindness shown to them during Betty's illness.

Those wishing to remember her with a charitable contribution are asked to consider Hospice of Little Traverse Bay.”
