Charles Edgerton was born at North Royalton, Ohio on April 12, 1831, the fourth son of Harvey and Hannah (Nelson) Edgerton.  Charles was raised in North Royalton and resided their for the entirety of his life.  He was a farmer and day laborer.

 

Charles Edgerton was married at North Royalton on May 24, 1853 to Jane Carter, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Dodsworth) Carter, natives of England.  Jane was born at North Royalton on August 28, 1833.  Charles and Jane did not have any children of their own; but they did adopt a young girl, Olivia Searles, daughter of Lorenzo and Jane Searles.
