Charles E. Edgerton served in the 7th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment (Company B) during the Civil War.  He enlisted as a private on December 17, 1863 at Troy, New York, giving his as as eighteen years (sic).  He was mustered into the 7th Regiment on December 29, 1863 and was killed in battle at Cold Harbor, Virginia on June 3, 1864.  Charles was buried at the Cold Harbor National Cemetery.  (see New York: Report of the Adjutant-General, 1894-1906)

 

Charles’ mother, “Rhoda Edgarton” applied for a Civil War pension on behalf of her son on January 9, 1865.  The application cited Charles’ service in the 7th New York Heavy Artillery (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #78396, Certificate #48897).  Rhoda Edgarton of Hoosick Falls, was listed on the 1885 Rensselaer County, New York Pension Rolls, collecting a monthly pension of $8.00 as of June 1865 (certificate #048,897).
