Charlotte S. Edgerton was born in Coventry, Connecticut in the year 1827, the daughter of Hezekiah Edgerton IV and Mary (“Polly”) Colman.  Charlotte was raised in Coventry and resided there for most of her life.  She was never married.

Charlotte lived most of her life in the home of her parents.  Upon her father’s death in 1862, she acted as executor on his estate, and presumably inherited all of his property.  Charlotte’s own estate upon her death was valued at over $5,000.00, not a small sum for that time.

Charlotte Edgerton died at Hampton, Windham County, Connecticut on December 29, 1891, aged 84 years.  According to the record of her death (Hampton VR 4:334), she was a widow, aged 63 years [sic], and was born in Coventry, Connecticut.  The cause of death was listed as heart disease.  Charlotte was buried beside her parents in the family plot at Nathan Hale Cemetery in South Coventry.

Charlotte left a Last Will and Testament, dated March 13, 1889, which was proved at Hampton Probate Court on January 19, 1892, before William H. Burnham, Judge of Probate.  The will left particular requests to several relatives, including her uncle, Samuel M. Edgerton, and aunt, Lucy Edgerton (wife of her uncle, Oliver Edgerton), as well as several cousins.  Charlotte named her cousin, Nathan C. White (ie. Nathan Colman White) as executor of the will, and he duly submitted the will for probate and obtained receipts for the legacies from each of the heirs.  The complete record of probate (will, administration, inventory and receipts) was filed with the Hampton District Probate Court – Volume 4, pp. 95 – 97, 165 – 172.
