Clark Myron Edgerton was born January 3, 1839 at Wallingford, Vermont, the fourth child and third son of Crispin Bull and Lucretia Smead (Allen) Edgerton of Wallingford.  He was raised in Wallingford and resided there for the majority of his life.  Later in life, he removed to Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts.  He made his living as a farmer and carpenter.

Clark M. Edgerton was married on January 11, 1864 to Eliza Anna Doty, daughter of Silas and Mary (Cory) Doty of Danby, Vermont.  It is presumed that the marriage took place in Wallingford, although no entry of the marriage is found in the Vital Records at either Wallingford or Danby.  The date of marriage cited here is reported in a number of secondary accounts (eg. Edgerton Family Genealogy, Ida Ferry Welch et. al.; Descendants of Edward Allen of Nantucket, Mass.; Orrin Peer Allen).

Clark and Eliza had a family of six children – five daughters and one son:  Maud Berry, Lester Clark, Jay Forrest, Jessie Calista, Mary Lucretia and Ora Calista.   Most of the births were entered in the Vital Record Books at Wallingford.  Three of the children – Lester, Jessie and Ora.  The eldest daughter, Maud Berry, was married to Warren Clark Kane of Malone, New York and Jay married Ida May Damon of Springfield, Massachusetts.  There is no further account of the youngest surviving daughter, Mary.

The household of Clark Edgerton was recorded in the 1870 Federal Census of Wallingford, Rutland County, Vermont (pg. 778; dwelling #204; family #202; enum. July 2, 1870), as follows:
