According to the above census record, Mary was the mother of six children, all of whom were still living.  Palmer’s occupation was listed as “farmer”, and the two elder sons, Raymond and Robert, were each listed as a “laborer”.

 

Palmer Edgerton was listed as a head of household in the 1920 Federal Census of Center Township, Lake County, Indiana (pg. 45; no dwelling or family # listed; enum. January 19, 1920).  His household at that time consisted of wife, Mary, and two sons, Robert and John.  Beyond that, little can be deciphered from the enumeration since the census page has grown extremely faded.

 

The following obituary for Mrs. Mary L. (Pixley) Edgerton is extracted from the Lake County, Indiana Genealogy Archives (original publication and date unknown):

 

“Mary L. Pixley, daughter of Wm. and Ann Pixley, was born near Lowell, In, Jan 27, 1867.  She was Married to Palmer Edgerton, July 3, 1887.  Six children were born to this union:  Myrtle Richardson, Alta Vinnedge, Stella Hover, Robert Edgerton, John Edgerton, Ray Edgerton.  Ray Edgerton passed away in 1923.

 

Mrs Edgerton was a devoted daughter and sister in her childhood home, and a self-sacrificing, tireless mother and wife in her home she chose to make.  Many kind deeds to neighbors and friends and a sweet sunny disposition were virtues that were her’s, and will never be forgotten by those who knew her.

 

She quietly slipped away at the noon hour Dec. 19, 1925, at the age of 58 yrs. 10 mons. and 22 days.  She leaves her husband, and 5 children, 3 sisters,3 brothers to mourn her loss.

 

Furneral services were held at the Creston M.E. church monday at 2 p.m.  Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the Lowell M.E. church conducted the funeral services.  Interment was made at the Creston cemetery.  Undertaker Sheets had charge of the service.  The following acted as pallbearers: Earl Taylor, Horace Ruble, William Taylor, Andrew Cutler, Herman Carsten, Clarence Fuller.”

 

At the time of the 1930 Federal Census, Palmer C. Edgerton was residing in the household of his daughter and son-in-law, Alta and Calvin Vinnedge, in Cedar Lake (Center Township), Lake County, Indiana (pg. 109; dwelling #247; family #250; enum. May 7, 1930).  He was enumerated as “Palmer Edgerton, father, aged 67, widower, married at the age of 25, born in Indiana, father born in Pennsylvania, mother born in Indiana.”
