Daniel M. Edgeton was a school teacher and later a public accountant.  He was married twice, but apparently did not get along well with either of his wives.  He was divorced from his first wife, Mable E. Wilcox; and relations with his second wife, Minnie (Stratton) Richmond, deteriorated to the point that he reportedly only communicated with her through notes and letters.  Daniel did not have children with either of his wives.

According to the above census record, Mable had not had any children.  Daniel’s occupation was listed as “school teacher”.  The family was residing at this time in McDonough Village.

The following biographical account of Daniel M. Edgerton is provided by Mrs. Shirley (Edgerton) Halwig, from family records and her own recollection:

 

“Daniel Edgerton was a licensed school teacher and taught in several of the area country schools from 1890 to 1908.  He was the post master in the village of German which was known as German Four Corners.  This was around 1909.  After some time he left the area and moved to Binghamton, Boome Co., where he worked in the office of the State highway Department until his retirement.  (Actual position upon retirement was head accountant, Binghamton District Office, N.Y. State Dept. of Public Works, 44 yrs, 10 mo. of State Service.  Retired Dec. 1941.)”
