Daniel W. Edgerton was born at Mansfield, Connecticut on January 18, 1830, the son of Asa Baldwin Edgerton and his second wife, Mahala Moseley. No primary record of Daniel’s birth has been located. The birthdate cited here is derived from the age and birthday recorded in a later indenture (see below). Daniel was raised in Mansfield, and as far as is currently known, resided in Connecticut his entire life. Daniel Edgerton “of Mansfield” was apprenticed to Isaac Farwell in 1844 for a term of seven years. According to the indenture, dated July 1, 1844, Daniel was “bound to Isaac Farwell until age 21, which will be on January 18, 1851, to learn the trade of husbandry” (see Ritter, Kathy A.; Apprentices of Connecticut 1637- 1900; Part 1; pg. 50). At the time of the 1850 Federal Census, Daniel and his elder brother, Asa Baldwin Edgerton II, were residing together in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut in the household of Frederick Averill (pg. 392; dwelling #232; family #246; enum. August 9, 1850). They were recorded as follows:
Daniel Edgerton was married on September 13, 1857 at Hartford, Connecticut to Mrs. Charlotte Eveline (Alderman) Herrick of Holyoke, Massachusetts. Charlotte (aka. “Eva C.”) was the daughter of Daniel Truman and Esther (Hayes) Alderman and the widow of Judson Herrick. According to the marriage record (Hartford VR M2:42), Daniel was aged 27, born in Mansfield, Connecticut, and Charlotte was aged 28, born in Holyoke, Massachusetts. The following marriage announcement was published in the The Hartford Daily Courant on Wednesday, September 16, 1857: “MARRIAGES – In this city, in St. Paul’s Church, Sept. 13, by Rev. C. R. Fisher, Mr. Daniel Edgerton and Miss [sic] Charlotte E. Herrick, both of Hartford.” The household of Daniel Edgerton was recorded in the 1860 Federal Census of Hartford (District 1), Hartford County, Connecticut (pg. 833; dwelling #955; family #1135; enum. July 10, 1860), as follows:

Daniel W. Edgerton died at Hartford, Connecticut
on November 10, 1871. According to the
record of his death (Hartford VR D3:36), he was a “watchman”, aged 34 years
[sic], and had been born in Ashford,
Connecticut, the son of Asa [Edgerton]. The cause of death was given as “Bright’s Disease”.
Daniel Edgerton was buried at the Zion Hill Cemetery, in Hartford. The following obituary for Daniel W. Edgerton was
published in The Hartford Courant on Saturday, November 11, 1871: “DEATHS – EDGERTON – In this city, Nov. 10, Daniel W. Edgerton, aged 42 years. Funeral from his late residence, No. 34 Spring street, Monday afternoon, Nov. 13, at 3 o’clock. Burial private.” Daniel’s widow, “Eva C. Edgerton”, was remarried
on May 1, 1873 at Easthampton, Massachusetts to Lewis Clapp. She died at Hampden, Massachusetts on
August 1, 1898 (VR 481:709:8) and was
buried beside her first husband at Zion Hill Cemetery. A

the Edgerton plot at Zion Hill Cemetery bears the following inscriptions:
