Vermont, The Green Mountain State (Walter Hill Crockett, The Century History Co. Inc., New York, 1923; Vol. 5, pg 469) gives the following biography of Edward Henry Edgerton:

 

“Edward H. Edgerton, of Rochester, was born at Warren, August 31, 1863.  He graduated at Barre Academy in 1885 and studied law in the office of Stephen C. Shurtleff and in the office of Senator William P. Dillingham at Montpelier.  He was admitted to the bar in 1889 and practiced for a brief period at Barre.  Since 1890, he has practiced at Rochester.  He has held many town offices,  is Town Clerk and Town Agent; was a member of the House in 1906 and 1908; Senator, 1910; member of the Board of Visitors, Norwich University, 1910-1912; Assistant Judge, Windsor County Court from 1913 to December 1921.”

 

At the time of the 1880 Federal Census, Edward H. Edgerton was recorded in the household of his grandfather, Edward A. Eldridge, in Warren, Washington County, Vermont (pg. 247; dwelling #143; family #148; enum. June 14, 1880).  He was enumerated as:  “Edward H. Edgarton, grandson, aged 16, born in Vermont, father & mother born in Vermont”.  His occupation was listed as “works on farm”.

 

The household of Edward H. Edgerton was recorded in the 1900 Federal Census of Rochester, Windsor County, Vermont (pg. 223; dwelling #249; family #254; enum. June 28, 1900), as follows:
