Eliza J. Edgerton, daughter of Daniel and Jemima (Foster) Edgerton.
The following obituary notice for Miss Eliza J. Edgerton was published in the Roman Citizen: “Death in Rome of a Former Resident of Ava. Miss Eliza J. Edgerton, aged 77 years, died at 12:30 am Monday at the house of her brother-in-law, Seldon Palmer, on Turin Rd., just above Jay St. in Rome NY. On Sunday night Sept. 12 she was taken ill with acute indigestion and this illness was followed by a partial shock from which she gradually failed. Miss Edgerton was born in Martinsburg, Lewis Co, and was a daughter of the late Daniel and Jemima Foster Edgerton. With her parents, when a small child, she removed to Ava. Nearly all her life had been spent in Oneida Co., in Rome and vicinity. On the death of her parents about thirty years ago, she went to live in the family of Seldon Palmer and has since made her home there. Besides a number of nephews and nieces, she leaves two brothers, Prof. D. D. Edgerton of Rochester and Nathaniel Edgerton of West Vienna. During a brief residence in the western part of the state, Miss Edgerton united with the Presbyterian Church. Since her removal to Rome about 16 years ago, she had attended the Presbyterian church until failing health made it impossible for her to attend. She will be greatly missed by a large number of friends.” |
