following obituary for Mrs. Elizabeth (Edgerton) Chisholm was published in The Los Angeles Times on August 12,
2004: “Elizabeth E. Chisholm Died at home in Mission Viejo, CA on Saturday, August 7, 2004 after a brief illness. She was born Elizabeth Edgerton on December 1, 1908, in Chestertown, NY, to William Mundy Edgerton and Letitia Little Edgerton. She attended Columbia Nursing School in New York City, and worked as a nurse in New York and Ohio. While in Ohio she took flying lessons, which were curtailed when World War II broke out. She moved to California during the war, because of the urgent need for nurses. She studied psychiatric nursing at U.C. Berkeley, was the Director of Nursing at Modesto State Hospital, and in 1964 became the Director of Nursing at Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa, CA. She retired in 1972, and moved from San Clemente to Palm Springs after her husband's death in 1987. She moved to Laguna Hills in 1994, and then to Mission Viejo in 1999. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Colin B. Chisholm, and her two brothers, Frederick J. Edgerton, and William L. Edgerton. She is survived by her nephew, William W. Edgerton. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 717 N. Bradford Avenue, Placentia, CA 92870. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church. Family assisted by Stricklin/Snively Mortuary, Long Beach (562) 426-3365.” |
