Everett Wheeler Edgerton, son of James Everett and Lucretia (Reeve) Edgerton.

Everett Wheeler Edgerton was born at Charleston,
South Carolina on July 3, 1865, the only son of James Everett and Lucretia
(Reeve) Edgerton. He resided in
Charleston the entirety of his lifetime and made his living as a clerk. His name is found written variouly as
“Everett Edgerton” (1870 Federal Census), “Wheeler Edgerton” (1880 Federal
Census), “Wheeler E. Edgerton” (1890 Charleston Directory) and “E. W.
Edgerton” (1889 Charleston Directory). “E. W. Edgerton” was listed in the 1889 Directory
of Charleston, South Carolina. He was
listed as a clerk with the Clyde Steamship company. His address was given as “boards 29
Montague”. He was similarly listed in
the 1890 Directory of Charleston, South Carolina, where his name was written
as “Wheeler E. Edgerton” (see Charleston City Directory, 1889;
Southern Directory and Publishing Co., 1889; and Charleston City
Directory, 1890; Southern Directory and Publishing Co., 1890). Everett W. Edgerton was married to Beulah T.
Jackson, daughter of Roy and Julia Jackson of Charleston, but died not long
afterwards. According to his death
certificate (South Carolina State Death Certificates, certificate #28), he
died at Charleston on January 15, 1886, aged 30 years, 6 months and 12
days. The cause of death was given
as “chronic nephritis”. Everett was buried in the Edgerton plot at
Magnolia Cemetery, and the family
monument was
