Franklin Edgerton, son of Franklin and Adeline Amelia (Danielson) Edgerton.

May 14, 1864; Spottsylvania Court House, Spottsylvania Co., VA.

Spottsylvania Court House Battlefield; Spottsylvania Court House, Spottsylvania Co., VA.

 


“Frank” Edgerton, “aged 18, of Marshall, Michigan” enlisted on August 21, 1861 at Detroit, Michigan for service in the Union Army.  He served in C Company; 1st Volunteer Sharpshooters Regiment, which fought at battles throughout Virginia and Pennsylvania, including Yorktown, Second Bull Run and Gettysburg.   He was promoted to Full Corporal on February 28, 1863.  Franklin was killed at the battle of Spottsylvania Court House (Virginia) on  May 14, 1864, and buried on the battlefield there (see  Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers 1861-65, 1903).
