The following obituary for George Edgeton was published in the Bulletin Journal on Thursday, March 18, 1897:

 

“George Edgeton, who was known by all, died at his home northeast of town on Saturday evening, after a prolonged illness of pulmonary complaint.  He leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter to mourn his departure.  Interment was made in the Brandon cemetery on Monday.”

 

At the time of the 1900 Federal Census, Mrs. Martha Jane (Wilson) Edgerton and her daughter, Hattie, were residing in Cedar Rapids, Linn County, in the household of Martha’s brother, Owen Wilson (pg. 23; dwelling #85; family #97; enum. June 11, 1900).  The household was enumerated as follows:

According to the above census record, Jane was the mother of three children, all of whom were still living.  Her occupation was listed as “Dress maker” and Hattie was noted as “at school”.  The family was residing at 109 1st Street.

 

The following obituary for “Mrs. J. Edgerton” was published in The Cedar Rapids Daily Republican on Thursday, February 15, 1917:

 

“MRS. J. EDGETON OF CENTER POINT DIED.

 

Center Point, Feb. 14 – Special – Mrs. J. Edgeton passed away at her home in this city at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon after an illness of nine weeks.  She was a pioneer of Linn county and had been living in Center Point for three years.  She was 72 years of age.

 

Mrs. Edgeton’s husband died almost twenty years ago.  She is survived by three children, Mrs. Hattie E. Hedinger, who runs the Commercial hotel at Center Point; Frank Edgeton, of Center Point and Homer Edgeton, of Urbana.  She was a member of M.B.A. Lodge at Walker.

 

The funeral will be held at the home Friday at 2:30, the Rev. R. B. Jones officiating.  The body will be taken on the 1:50 car to Brandon for interment.”
