George Morgan Edgerton was born October 13, 1831 in Virginia (probably West Virginia), the eldest son of Luther and Elizabeth McKennan (Morgan) Edgerton.  He was named for his maternal grandfather, George Morgan.

 

George was raised in Marietta, Ohio and upon his maturity settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where he resided for the majority of his life.  He was married at St. Louis on June 21, 1858 to Mrs. Ann (Block) Leach, widow of John Leach and daughter of Phineas and Delia (Block) Block of Pike County, Missouri.
