The following obituary notice for Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth (Taylor) Edgerton was published in The Westmoreland Recorder on March 2, 1911:

 

“Mrs. George W. Edgerton, formerly Mattie Taylor, died at her home six miles north of Topeka, last Friday.  She leaves a husband and two children, one of them less than a month old.  The deceased was a daughter of S. B . Taylor and wife.  The body was brought to Westmoreland.  The funeral was held in the Baptist church of this city on Tuesday and was conducted by Rev. B. K. Evans, a local M. E. preacher of the congregation of which she was a member.  An obituary will be published next week.”
