The following obituary for Godfrey Cadwalader Edgerton
was published in the Bozeman Daily
Chronicle on March 27, 2004:
“Godfrey ‘Dutch’ Edgerton of Manhattan passed away at his
home March 19, 2004.
Dutch was born Oct. 14, 1909, in Scarsdale, N.Y. After helping his family through the
Depression, Dutch became a postal carrier.
In September 1942 he joined the Army and served in World War II with
the 457th Heavy Bomb Group in England,
where he flew 25 missions as a ball turret gunner. He enjoyed England,
Scotland and Wales where
he made some lifelong friends. After
the war, he returned to civilian life and his career with the postal service.
He married Margaret
Lane in 1948.
They had two children and 55 happy years together. Dutch and Marjie
moved to Manhattan in 1984, and enjoyed
touring Montana and Yellowstone National Park
by car. Dutch was a proud member of
the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Association of Letter
Carriers.
He is survived by his wife, Marjie; his daughter Pat
(Bill) of Leeds, Maine;
son, Doug (Maureen) of West Yellowstone;
along with his grandchildren, Heather, Leah, and Clare. He also leaves behind many friends from a
lifetime of friendliness and helpfulness to all he encountered. He will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned.”
