Heman Joseph Edgerton was born March 1863 in Solon Township, Michigan, the youngest son of Curtis W. Edgerton and Lucy J. Fifield.  Following the death of his mother, Heman’s father, Curtis, was remarried and it appears that soon afterwards the family removed from Michigan – most eventually settling in the state of Wyandotte County, Kansas.

 

Heman Joseph Edgerton was married at Pottawattamie County, Iowa on August 2, 1890 to Eunice Orillia Lowe, daughter of Hiram and Sarah (Wheart) Lowe.  Heman and Eunice resided successively in Elgin, Illinois (where their eldest son, Leroy, was born in 1894), Missouri (where daughter, Mary, was born in 1896) and Oklahoma (where the younger son, Lee, was born in 1902).  At the time of the 1900 Federal Census, the farmily was recorded living in Shawnee Township, Kansas and at the time of the 1910 Federal Census they were residing in Kansas City, Missouri.  In the 1920 and 1930 Federal Censuses, the family was recorded in Mission Township, Kansas.
