Henry D. Edgerton “aged 26, of Watson, Michigan” enlisted at Allegan, Michigan on August 9, 1862 for service in the Union Army.  He served in L Company of the 4th Michigan Cavalry Regiment, which fought mainly in Tennessee and Georgia.  Henry was discharged at Louisville, Kentucky on May 13, 1865 (see Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers 1861-65, 1903).

 

Henry D. Edgerton applied for a Civil War invalid pension on August 9, 1869.  His widow, “Minnie W. Edgerton”, later applied for a widow’s pension on November 16, 1898.  Both applications cited Henry’s service in the 4th Michigan Cavalry, L Co. (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #146732, Certificate #113305; and Application #686251, Certificate #484009).

According to the above census record, Minnie was the mother of three children, two of whom were still living, and Belle was the mother of one child.  Frank’s occupation was listed as “farmer”.
