The following biographical excerpt is taken from Our Country and its People: A Descriptive and Biographical Record of Genesee County, New York  (Safford E. North, ed.; The Boston History Company, 1899):

 

“Edgerton, Henry G., was born in Orleans county, N. Y., May 30, 1825, and is a son of Henry and Jane (West) Edgerton.  His father was a native of Vermont and removed to Orleans county in 1816, where he was one of the pioneer farmers; he died in 1874.  Henry G. Edgerton was educated in the common schools and came to Elba with his parents in 1832.  In 1843 he married Eleanore, daughter of Rice Baldwin; they had four children: George B., Charles A., William F. and Mrs Albert Martin.”

According to the above census record, Eleanore was the mother of six children, four of whom were still living.  Under occupations, Henry and William were both listed as farmers.  The household also included one servant, Lulu E. Sprague.

 

The following obituary for Henry Graves Edgerton II was published in The Medina Tribune on Thursday, April 26, 1917:

 

“Henry Graves Edgerton, one of the oldest residents of Genesee county, died at his home in Batavia on Thursday last.  Deceased was born in the town of Barre May 30th, 1824.  Besides his widow he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Albert R. Martin, of this place, and three sons.  The funeral services, with interment in the family plot at Elba, occurred on Friday.”
