Henry S. Edgerton, “a
shoemaker, of Sturbridge,
Massachusetts, aged 20”
enlisted on August 16, 1861 as a private in the C Company, 21st Massachusetts
Infantry Regiment. The 21st Regiment
was active from February 1862 through December 1862 at battles in North Carolina, Virginia
and Maryland, including the second battle at
Bull Run (Aug. 30, 1862). Henry Edgerton was discharged on disability at Newport News, Virginia
