Mar. 24, 1862, s. Gurdon and Eleanor G. (Gunn) Edgerton; ed. pub.schs.,
Montague, Mass., and Brimfield (Mass.) Acad.; m. Emma T. Houghton , of
Williamstown, Mass., Nov. 1888; 2 children, Gurdon Irving, Herbert
Houghton. Began active career in
employ of the Franklin County Nat. Bank, Greenfield, Mass, 1880 and continued 15
yrs., advancing to position of cashier; identified with life ins. business
since 1895; sec. Greenfield Life Ins. Co., 1901-May 1904; became sec., 1904,
