Horace Wilcox Edgerton, son of Charles Fox and Corilla (Clark) Edgerton Edgerton.
Matilda Rhoda Taylor
Children:
Horace Wilcox Edgerton was born at Pawlet, Vermont on May 7, 1836, the only son of Charles Fox and Corilla (Clark) Edgerton. He was raised in Pawlet, Vermont. Horace’s occupation was listed variously as miller, florist and painter. He probably learned the mill trade from his father, who operated a grist-mill in Pawlet for many years. Horace W. Edgerton was married on April 5, 1861 at Dorset, Vermont to Matilda Rhoda Taylor. The marriage record (Dorset VR 1:6:12) states that Horace was a “miller, aged 25, born in Pawlet”, and that Matilda was “aged 25, born in Dorset”. Other records state that Matilda was born in Rupert. No parents were listed in the marriage record. According to the 1900 and 1910 Federal Census enumerations (see below), Horace and Matilda (Taylor) Edgerton had four children. There are currently records of only two of the children: a son, Charles Franklin, born at Pawlet in 1863; and an infant daughter who was born at Pawlet on August 9, 1873, and died two days later. The birth and death records of this latter infant (Pawlet VR 3:9 & 3:5) indicate that Horace was residing in district 12 (of Pawlet), probably adjacent to or very nearby his father, Charles.
