The following obituary for Howard
W. Edgerton was printed in The Hartford Courant on April 27, 2000 (pg. B8):
“Howard W. Edgerton, 98, of Canton Center
passed away Tuesday, (April 25, 2000) at Brightview of Avon. He was born May 22, 1901 in Avon, son of
the late Edward B. and Frances (Richardson) Edgerton and had lived in the
Canton area most of his life. He
attended the Canton schools and the Morse Business School. He owned and operated a local dairy farm in
town . He later worked at Fitzgerald’s Food Store in Avon
for ten years. He had a great love of
gardening and sold his produce and flowers at a small farm stand. He was a 74 year member and the oldest
member of the First Congregational Church of Canton Center, the Prime Timers,
a 50 plus year member of the Masons, Village Lodge #29 AF and AM, and a long
time member of the Cawasa Grange. He
is survived by two sons, Roy W. Edgerton and his wife Barbara of Manchester
and Robert H. Edgerton and his wife Margaret of Chartlottesville, VA.; five
grandchildren, Scott, Susan, Jennifer, Gayle and Robin Edgerton; a niece and
five nephews. He was predeceased by
his first wife, Ruth (Swanson) Edgerton and his second wife Phyllis
(Reynolds) Edgerton. A graveside
service will be held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at the
First Congregational Church, Canton
Center on Saturday,
April 29 at 2 p.m. There are no
calling hours. Vincent Funeral Home,
120 Albany Turnpike, Canton has charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may
be made to The First Congregational Church, 184 Cherry Brook Road, Canton
Center, CT 06020.”
