following obituary for Mrs. Bernice Irene (Glanville) Edgerton was published
in the Valley City Times Record on
Monday, December 14, 2009: “Bernice Edgerton, 84, Valley City, passed away
peacefully on Dec. 12, 2009, at Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. The funeral is at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at
Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel, Valley City. Interment will be in Memory Gardens
Cemetery near Valley City in the spring.
Visitation is on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour
before the service on Tuesday morning. Bernice Irene Glanville, the daughter of Howard and Agnes
(Wilkinson) Glanville, was born March 3, 1925, in Wing, N.D. Bernice grew up and attended school in the
Wing area and received her associates degree from Bismarck Junior College. Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary
at the North Dakota State Capitol. On Aug. 19, 1945, Bernice married her high school
sweetheart, Clyde Edgerton. The two were blessed with three daughters and
made their homes in various towns throughout North Dakota, where Clyde worked
as a school superintendent and teacher. As the girls were growing up, Bernice was
actively involved in community and volunteer events. In 1966, she and Clyde moved to Valley City, and then in
1969, they relocated to Huron, S.D. Bernice
worked at the Daily Plainsman Newspaper until her retirement in 1987. In 1994, Bernice and Clyde returned to
Valley City to be closer to their family. Her husband, Clyde, passed away on Feb. 12,
1999. Bernice was a member of the
Congregational United Church of Christ Church and was an avid sports
fan. Most of all, she cherished her
time spent with her children and grandchildren as well as keeping in touch
with the many friends she and Clyde encountered over the years. Bernice is survived by her three daughters: Claudia
(Warren) Meissner, Bemidji, Minn.; Gloria (Terry) Glandt, Valley City; and
Linda (Orv) Hughart, Sioux Falls, S.D.; seven grandchildren: Chris (Kim)
Meissner, Joanna Meissner, Ben Meissner, Tom (Tara) Glandt, Casey (Randy)
Glandt, Trudy (Ryan) Riehl and Holly Hughart; five great-grandchildren:
Jackson Meissner, Kinslee Glandt, Sammy Glandt and Cambria and Lauren Riehl. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde, and infant sister. Funeral arrangements by the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home of Valley City.” |
