Jacob Edgerton, son of Richard and Elizabeth (Scudder) Edgerton.
Jacob Edgerton was the youngest son of Richard and Elizabeth (Scudder) Edgerton. He was born in Norwich, Connecticut on March 30, 1706; and was baptized at the First Congregational Church of Norwich on February 6th of the following year (ChR 1:5). Jacob was a farmer and lived in Norwich throughout his life. He resided in the western district of Norwich which was later to become the township of Bozrah. Jacob was never married. He was named executor of his mother, Elizabeth’s will, dated November 28, 1753. She died in 1762 at Jacob’s home in Bozrah. Jacob Edgerton died at Bozrah (then Norwich), Connecticut on September 19, 1773. His gravestone there was inscribed: In memory of Mr Jacob Edger ton who died Sept 13th 1773 in y 67th year of his age Jacob was buried at the Johnson Cemetery in Bozrah. An elder sister, Lydia, was also buried there in the same plot. Jacob’s death was noted in the Vital Records of Norwich (VRp I:383) as that of “Mr. Jacob Edgerton”. Jacob left a Last Will and Testament, dated March 29, 1772, in which he mentioned his brother Richard, sister Ann, sister-in-law Elizabeth, nephews Simeon, Joseph and William, and neice Martha. Two of Jacob’s nephews, Simeon and Joseph, were named executors. The will was witnessed by Peter Plumb, David Throop Jr., and Benjamin Throop.
