James H. Edgerton served in the Union Army during the
Civil War. He enlisted from New Jersey on August
26, 1861, and served as a private in the 1st New Jersey Cavalry Regiment (K
Company). He applied for a Civil War invalid
pension on October 28, 1890; and his widow, “Nettie E. Edgerton”, later
applied for a widow’s pension on October 6, 1917. Both applications were filed from the state
of New Jersey
(see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #893010, Certificate
#658725; and Application #1108274, Certificate #845431).

James H. Edgerton and his wife, Nettie, were
buried at Cedar Ridge Cemetery,
in the town of Blairstown, New Jersey. Their monument there bears the following
inscription:
