On May 24, 1830, on her deathbed, Jerusha Edgerton
dictated a Last Will and Testament. An affidavit of the will, dated June 28,
1830, was attested to and signed by her brother, Josephus Edgerton, Roxana
Wilcox (probably an in-law) and Milo
[Suce?]. The verbal will mentions
specific bequests to Jerusha’s sisters, Angeline and Charlotte, a niece
(unborn daughter of her sister, Nancy (Edgerton) Wilcox, and a sister-in-law,
Lorenda (wife of Josephus Edgerton).
The will also speaks of Jerusha’s mother (ie. Nancy (Lee) Edgerton),
who was granted authority to dispose of the estate.
Jerusha Edgerton was buried at the West Granby
Cemetery. Her death was entered in the record book of
the “West Granby Burying-Ground” (pg. 9, no. 168), as follows:
“[1830]…May 24…Jerusha daughter of Jacob
Edgerton…consumption…[age] 22…[lot] 34”
Jerusha’s death was also recorded at the First
Congregational Church of Granby (Book II, pg. 151).
