John Edgerton was born at Randolph, Vermont on January 6, 1810, the second son and fourth child of Benjamin Storrs and Millee (Hendee) Edgerton.  He was a farmer and resided in Randolph throughout his life.

John’s wife was Emily Stone, daughter of Samuel and Esther (York) Stone of Brookfield (just to the north of Randolph).  Emily was born at Brookfield on March 19, 1819.  To date, no marriage record has been found.  The marriage may have taken place in Brookfield, where record keeping was apparently quite scant at this time.  As far as is known, John and Emily had only one child – a son, John B., born at Randolph on March 5, 1848 (VR B:169).
