John Calhoun Edgerton, son of George
W. and Mahala Mary (
Sarah Ann Hall
Children:
John Calhoun Edgerton was born at Cabot, Vermont
on April 16, 1859, the son of George W. and Mahala Mary (Richardson)
Edgerton. His father died when he was
an infant. John was apparently raised
in Cabot, as he was recorded there in the 1860 and 1870 Federal Censuses – in
the households of his grandmother, Olive Edgerton, and mother, Mahala
Edgerton, respectively. Upon his
maturity, he left Vermont and eventually settled in the city of Seattle,
Washington. John Calhoun Edgerton was married at the Catholic
Church in New Castle, King County, Washington on June 20, 1886 to Mrs. Sarah
Ann (Hall) Laws. Sarah’s parentage has
not yet been discovered. According to
the 1900 Federal Census (see below), she was born March 1863 in England. At the time of her marriage, she was stated
to be “of King County”. Sarah had one
daughter, Marie, from her first marriage. John and Sarah (Hall) Edgerton had three
children: two sons, John Calhoun Jr.,
Lawrence B., and one daughter, Blanche Gertrude. The family resided in Seattle, where John
made his living as a railroad conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. Curiously, on nearly all census records,
John’s age is consistently reported two to four years younger than his actual

to the above census record, Sarah was the mother of four children, all of
whom were still living. John’s occupation
was listed as “Conductor, R.R.” and it was noted that Sarah had emigrated to

John’s
occupation was listed as “Yard Master, Union Pacific”. The family was residing at 2638 23rd The household of John G. [sic] Edgerton was
recorded in the 1930
Federal Census of Seattle City,
John’s
occupation was listed as “Switchman, Railroad” and William’s occupation was
listed as “Trucker, Railroad”. The
family was residing at 2638 23rd West Avenue. John
Calhoun Edgerton died at Seattle, Washington on June 30, 1930. According to the Washington State Death
Certificate (#2073), he was a railroad conductor, married (spouse: Sarah),
aged 68 years, 2 months and 14 days and was the son of John and Margaret
Edgerton. John C. Edgerton was buried
on July 30, 1930 in the St. Mark Section (Section 3, Lot 115) of Calvary
Cemetery in Seattle, Washington. Mrs.
Sarah (Hall) Edgerton was buried adjacent to John in the same lot on May 21,
