John Q. Edgerton, son of Curtis and Amy (Harris) Edgerton.
John Q. Edgerton born May 6, 1830 at Woodstock,
Ontario Canada, the son of Curtis and Amy (Harris) Edgerton. When John was seven years old, his parents
settled in West Berlin, St. Clair County, Michigan. John resided in West Berlin for the
entirety of his adult life. He was
never married. John lived most of his life with various
relatives. At the time of the 1860
Federal Census, we was a laborer in the household of his brother-in-law,
Joseph Deneen (husband of his elder sister, Amy); in the 1870 and 1880
Federal Censuses, he was recorded in the household of his elder brother,
Clarence Edgerton; and at the time of the 1900 Federal Census he was residing
with his nephew, Burton Edgerton. John Q. Edgerton died at Berlin, Michigan on March
6, 1902 and was buried at the West Berlin Cemetery in the same plot as his
parents, Curtis and Amy, and his younger sister, Lophila. John’s death certificate
(Michigan State Death Certificates, #1902-2), provides the following
particulars:
John Edgerton did not leave a will; however a
detailed administration of his estate was filed with the St. Clair County
Probate Court. A transcript of the probate file has
