John W. Edgerton died at East Granby, Connecticut on July 20, 1866.  According to the record of his death (East Granby VRp 38), he was a “manufacturer”, aged 34 years and 26 days.  The record also states that John was married and had been born in Vernon, Connecticut.

 

John Edgerton was buried at the East Cemetery in Manchester, Connecticut; his gravestone there was inscribed with the dates “1831 (sic)– 1866”.  John’s wife, Frances, and both his children, Arabelle and William, were later buried in the same plot at East Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Frances (Keeney) Edgerton and her two children were recorded in the 1870 Federal Census of Manchester, Hartford County, Connecticut, residing in the household of Joel and Julia Wheeler (pg. 379; dwelling #246; family #340; enum. June 24, 1870).  The were enumerated as follows:

John W. Edgerton’s widow, Frances (Keeney) Edgerton, was remarried in Manchester, Connecticut on October 26, 1880 to Austin Root of Marlborough.  According to the marriage record (VR 3:146), Frances was aged 44, born in Manchester, Connecticut, and it was her second marriage.

 

At the time of the 1900 Federal Census, Mrs. Frances Martha (Keeney) Edgerton Root was residing in Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut in the household of her brother-in-law, James Carpenter (pg. 207; dwelling #40; family #129; enum. June 16, 1900).  She was enumerated as “Martha Root, sister-in-law, born May 1834 in Connecticut, widow, father and mother born in Connecticut”.
