The following obituary for Joseph L. Edgerton appeared in The Hartford Courant on December 11, 2000 (pg. B6):

 

“Joseph L. Edgerton, Sr., 81, of Newington, husband of 43 years to Gloria (Tinto) Edgerton, died Saturday, (December 9, 2000) at Hartford Hospital.  He was born Jan. 6 [sic], 1919, in Manchester, the son of the late Eugene and Alice (Cushman) Edgerton.  He resided in the Hartford area, until moving to Newington 37 years ago.  Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph, Jr. of Florida and Gary of New Britain; two daughters, Tracy Rodrigue of Newington and Nancy Langley of Southwick, MA.  He also leaves his beloved grandson, Tyler Rodrigue, who brought him so many hours of joy; a granddaughter, Lori Langley; and two great granddaughters, Katrina and Helena; two sisters, Doris Nightingale and her husband, Paul and Anne Marwick and her husband, Ernie; several nieces and nephews; and grand nieces.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and John.  Joe started Edgerton Heating Service, Inc. in 1955, specializing in the sale and service of G.E. furnaces.  He later added Zenith Fuel Oil to offer his customers a complete heating partnership.  In later years, he was employed by Hardware City Fuel, as vice president of operations until he retired.  Joe also enjoyed his years as manager and treasurer of Newington Little League during the 60’s and 70’s.

 

Funeral services will be Thurs., Dec. 14, 10 a.m., at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours are Wed., 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association of Connecticut, 45 Ash St., E. Hartford, CT 06108.”
