Joshua Edgerton was born in Lebanon, Connecticut circa 1754.  He was the only known son of Richard Edgerton III and his second wife, Rebecca Wells.  Joshua was baptized at the Goshen Church in Lebanon on January 20, 1754.  When Joshua was about six years old, his parents removed from Lebanon to West Simsbury, in Hartford County, Connecticut.

Joshua Edgerton spent most of his short life in West Simsbury.  On March 27, 1777, having contracted smallpox, Joshua wrote a Last Will and Testament, in which he left his entire estate to his “Honoured father and mother (as Richard Edgerton and wife Rebecca)”.  He named his father as executor.  The will was dated “at Chatham” (in Middlesex County, Connecticut), however Joshua referred to himself as “of Simsbury”.

No record has been found of Joshua’s death, either in Simsbury or Chatham.  He had died by June 2, 1777, when his will was entered in probate at Simsbury, Connecticut.
