Lester Edgerton was born at West Granby, Connecticut circa 1797, the son of Jacob and Nancy (Lee) Edgerton.  Very little is currently known about Lester Edgerton.  He resided in Canton, Connecticut and subsequent census and burial records (see below) show that he had a wife, Rhoda, and four children, three of whom died in infancy.  Beyond this, nothing is known of his family.

Lester Edgerton’s three infant children were buried at the North Canton Cemetery; the deaths were entered in the burial records (“North Canton Cemetery Inscriptions, 1754 – 1855”; The Connecticut Historical Society Bulletin; Vol. 31, No. 3; July 1966; pp. 94, 95) as follows:

“481  an infant child of Mr Lester Edgerton Dec 13th 1829”

“491  a male child of Lester Edarton June 26 [1831]”

“505 was that of a “child of Mrs Roda Edgerton June 20 1836”

The death of the second child was also recorded at the Canton Center Congregational as a “child of Lester Edgerton aged 10 months” (ChR 2:104).

Lester Edgerton was listed as a head of household in the 1830 Federal Census of Canton, Hartford County, Connecticut (pg. 287).  The enumeration of the household included only Lester and his wife, that is:  one male “of 30 and under 40” and one female “of 20 and under 30”.

Lester Edgerton died on May 26, 1836 (presumably at Canton, Connecticut) and was buried at the North Canton Cemetery.  His death was entered in the burial records of the North Canton Cemetery as:  “504 Mr Lester Edgerton died May 26 1830 [sic] aged ---” (see “North Canton Cemetery Inscriptions, 1754 – 1855”; The Connecticut Historical Society Bulletin; Vol. 31, No. 3; July 1966; p. 95).

Lester Edgerton was mentioned in the distribution of his mother’s estate dated  May 19, 1841, in which he was referred to as “Lester Edgerton deceased”.  Lester’s share of the estate was assigned to his elder brother, Alonson.

Lester Edgerton’s widow, Rhoda, was remarried at Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, Connecticut on June 25, 1837 to Joel Dowd of Harwinton (VR 203).  The marriage record gives her name as “Rhoda Edgerton of Granby”.  Joel Dowd was the widower of Lester’s younger sister, Maria (Edgerton) Dowd.  Joel and Rhoda resided in Harwinton and Plymouth, Connecticut.  Rhoda died at Plymouth, Connecticut on March 30, 1858, aged 51 years, and was buried at St. Matthew’s Cemetery.
