Levi Edgerton was born at Franklin (then Norwich), Connecticut on June 14, 1781, the second son of Zebulon and Abigail (Palmer) Edgerton.  He was raised in Franklin and removed with his parents and siblings to Onondaga County, New York circa 1802.  The Edgerton family settled at Delphi Falls in the southeastern district of Pompey Township.  Levi resided in Pompey for the remainder of his life.  He made his living as a farmer.

Levi Edgerton’s wife was named Margaret.  According to the 1850 Federal Census (see below), she was born circa 1777 in the state of Massachusetts.  Nothing further is known yet of her surname or ancestry.  Levi and Margaret reportedly had seven children – five of whom have currently been identified and are buried at the Delphi Falls Cemetery with their mother.  The following item from The Madison County Examiner published on July 12, 1843, reports the tragic history of the family:

“Hiram Edgerton died July 9, 1843 in Pompey, aged 27 years , the last of 7 children of Levi Edgerton, who with one exception lived to come of age and have, one after another, died within six years.”
