Lewis F. Edgerton fought in the Union Army during the Civil War.  He served as a private in the 8th United States Infantry, Company D.  According to Edgerton Family Genealogy (Ida Ferry Welch, et. al.; Sept. 1964), Lewis was stationed at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

Lewis F. Edgerton applied for a Civil War Invalid Pension on September 13, 1889.  The application was filed from the state of Wisconsin and cited Lewis’ service in the 8th U. S. Infantry (Co. D).  Lewis’ widow, “Dora Edgerton”, applied for a widow’s pension on September 15, 1903.  She was residing in Wisconsin at the time of the application (see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #729036, Certificate #553683; and Application #789528, Certificate #574690).
