pension on May 5, 1882. The
application was filed from the state of Indiana and cited Lewis’ service in the
7th Indiana Cavalry (F Co. and G Co.).
Lewis’ widow, “Eunice Edgerton” applied for a widow’s pension on April
14, 1909, also from Indiana
(see National Archives Pension Applications; Application #448351, Certificate
#833715; and Application #917801, Certificate #688315).

According to the above census record, Eunice was the
mother of four children, all of whom were still living. Lewis’ occupation was listed as “Stone
Mason” and Charles was listed as a “retail drug salesman”.
The following obituary notice for Lewis Franklin
Edgerton was reprinted in Reports of
the Historical Secretary of the Old Settler and Historical Association of
Lake Co, IN From 1906 to 1910 (Lake County Historical Society; 1906):
“April 7, (1909) – Lewis Edgerton, of the Creston pioneer
Cedar Lake family, died this day at Grass Creek, in Fulton county, and his
son died a few days before his father.
With these the Edgerton name, through Amos Edgerton, ends. Three daughters are living,
great-granddaughters of Horace Edgerton.”

The following obituary notice for Mrs. Eunice (Burch)
Edgerton was published in The
News-Sentinel (Fulton County,
Indiana) on Monday, February 15,
1937:
“Mrs. Eunice Edgerton, aged 82, a resident of the western
part of Fulton
county for seventy-six years, died Monday at 5:30 a.m. at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Roy Kumler in Kewanna.
Death was due to pneumonia. She
had been in ill health for five weeks.
The deceased was born near Tyner on January 8, 1855 and
was the daughter of Warren and Henrietta [sic] Burch. She lived for many years near Grass Creek
and eight years ago went to Kewanna to make her home with her daughter.
In a ceremony which was performed at Crown Point on March 5, 1876 the deceased
was married to Lewis Edgerton who died in 1909. She was a member of the Seventh Day
Adventist church at Grass Creek.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Kumler and Mrs. Louella
Jones, Carrington, N.D.;
brother, Warren Burch of Tyner, and a sister, Mrs. John Helms of McFarland, Cal.
Funeral rites will be conducted from the United Brethren
church at Grass Creek with an Adventist minister of Indianapolis officiating assisted by Rev.
F. L. Wilson, pastor of the U.B. church at Grass Creek. Interment will be made in the Grass Creek
cemetery.”
